On April 19, 2023, the Public Interest Declassification Board (PIDB) met in executive session by video teleconference. PIDB Executive Secretary Mark Bradley opened the virtual meeting, which was led by PIDB Acting Chair Alissa Starzak, and attended by PIDB members Ezra Cohen, Carter Burwell, Paul-Noel Chretien, Benjamin Powell, and Michael Lawrence. For the ISOO Operations, Industrial Security and Controlled Unclassified Information staff, Larry Clark briefed the PIDB members on Executive Order 14028, “On Improving the Nation’s Cybersecurity.” Senate Select Committee on Intelligence (SSCI) majority staff members Evan Gottesman and Jon Rosenwasser, and SSCI minority staff member Nic Adams joined the PIDB members to discuss reform of Executive Order 13526. In concluding the meeting, the PIDB intern Rachel Legow briefed the members on her work for the PIDB this semester; PIDB member Ezra Cohen discussed plans for the joint participation of PIDB members in an upcoming event with the Nuclear Nonproliferation Policy Education Center and the American Bar Association; and PIDB members Ezra Cohen and Carter Burwell provided an update on a request from Columbia University to host a PIDB meeting on campus early in 2024.
