Senate Majority Leader Charles P. Schumer and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell each announced their intention to appoint members to the Public Interest Declassification Board (PIDB) in the Congressional Record. Senator McConnell announced his intention to appoint Carter Burwell on January 13, 2022, and Senator Schumer announced his intention to appoint Alissa M. Starzak on February 1, 2022. Both appointments take effect today, February 15, 2022, and both will serve three-year terms in accordance with the Public Interest Declassification Act, as amended. Both members took the oath of office today from Mark Bradley, the PIDB’s Executive Secretary. Mr. Burwell is serving his first term on the PIDB and Ms. Starzak is serving her second term, having been first appointed by Senator Schumer in 2018.
