The Public Interest Declassification Board (PIDB) met in executive session by video teleconference on Thursday, March 18, 2021. PIDB Chair Ezra Cohen led the virtual meeting, which was attended by members Paul Noel Chretien, Trey Gowdy, Michael Lawrence, Ben Powell, Alissa Starzak, and John Tierney. At the session, archivists from the Center for Legislative Archives briefed the members on the archival status of legislative records relating to the 9/11 terrorist attack on the United States, focusing almost exclusively on the records of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States. The members also discussed the recent release by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence of a report on the assassination of the Saudi Arabian journalist Jamal Khashoggi. They also discussed the effect of the pandemic on their activities. While the PIDB will continue to meet virtually in accordance with National Archives and Records Administration pandemic policies and Federal guidelines, the members remain hopeful to be able to meet in person later this year. The March 18, 2021, executive session Agenda is now posted on the PIDB’s website. Please visit the PIDB Meetings – 2021 webpage.
