The Public Interest Declassification Board held an in-person executive session on May 21, 2025, at the National Archives in Washington, DC. The meeting was attended by PIDB members Mark Angelson, Carter Burwell, Ezra Cohen, Val Demings, John W. McCarthy, Carmen Medina, Ryan Montoya, and Alissa Starzak.
The meeting featured the following presentations:
- Jamie Joyce, executive director of the Society Library, provided a presentation on how her organization distills policy-making insight from large volumes of digital information as well as the broader importance of preservation and digital accessibility for federal records.
- Mike Rutka and Steve Vogel discussed the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency’s project CoNGA to consolidate the agency’s security classification guides. In addition to a more streamlined, precise, and user-focused guide, with CoNGA, NGA implemented a rapid change process resulting in more accurate and timely guidance.
- Dr. John Beieler and Dr. Mike Brundage of the Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security, offered an update on the project for modernizing declassification management. The project is ready for pilot testing and lays the groundwork for developing a cross-government digital transformation strategy for declassification.
The agenda for the May meeting is available on the PIDB’s webpage.
